Biography
Essam Moustafa is a Supreme Court Attorney at Law with over 35 years of experience in Egyptian maritime and commercial litigation. He is the founder of Essam Moustafa Law Firm and the driving force behind Ship Arrest in Egypt, Egypt's first dedicated ship arrest platform.
Mr. Moustafa began his legal career at one of Egypt's leading maritime law firms, where he developed deep expertise in admiralty work and acted as a local correspondent for some of the world's most respected P&I clubs, including the UK P&I Club, the London P&I Club, and the Swedish Club. This experience gave him an early and thorough grounding in the expectations of international maritime clients and the standards required to serve them effectively.
In 1999, Mr. Moustafa established his own firm, through which he has since handled a full range of maritime matters across every Egyptian commercial port. His admiralty practice covers ship arrest and release, general average, collision, salvage, grounding, charterparty and bill of lading disputes, and cargo claims. The firm has also successfully prosecuted several of Egypt's landmark maritime pollution cases, including representing the Egyptian Fisheries Union in one of the country's most significant environmental maritime claims.
Mr. Moustafa holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.), admitted to the Egyptian Bar Association in 1989. He has appeared before the Egyptian Court of Appeal and the Egyptian Court of Cassation — the highest court in Egypt — and is admitted to practice before all Egyptian courts including the Economic Courts that have exclusive jurisdiction over maritime matters.
He practises in Arabic and English.
